What is slavery

Slavery (also called thralldom) is a form of forced labour in which people are considered to be the property of others. Slaves can be held against their will from the time of their capture, purchase or birth, and deprived of the right to leave, to refuse to work, or to receive compensation (such as wages).
With around 27 million people, there are more slaves in the world today than at any point in history, more than twice as many as all the African slaves brought to the Americas.[1][2][3] Most are debt slaves, largely in South Asia, who are under debt bondage incurred by lenders, sometimes even generations ago.[4] Human trafficking is mostly for prostituting women and children into theĀ gender trade and industry.[5]
